Portland is simply a vegan foodie’s paradise. **Disclaimer: I am not vegan or vegetarian but love plant-based food!**  I have checked out these awesome poppin vegan/vegetarian places and also included some that are extremely vegan-friendly. It is super easy to eat a vegan or vegetarian diet in Portland, but these restaurants have taken it to the next level with their awesomeness.

A little note about my pricing system: Portland food is somewhat expensive compared to other regions in the US. I would compare pricing to Austin, LA, or Denver although we have no sales tax! Price below is assuming one entree without drinks or an appetizer.

We started off splitting an appetizer of Mac and Cheese with pesto and it was a large portion and it was amazing! Afterwards we then split a tempeh burger …which was basically an $11 slider. Their bowls looked bomb so may be back for more Mac and Cheese or to try one of their bowls! They are a sister restaurant with Prasad in the NW Pearl District and Prasad East on NE Burnside.

Amazing Mac and Cheese!

Next Level Burger

This place was great, they had burgers made of beets/quinoa/beans or a mixture of this as well as tofu, tempeh and seitan (vital wheat gluten). Was definitely not let down. Affordable and had tons of condiments and sides that looked great. I would definitely come here again

Bye and Bye

Lounge where minors are allowed until 8 PM, but they have their awesome menu until 10 PM. Happy Hour is every day 3 PM-7 PM. Score! $1 beers, entrees, wine and well drinks. We ordered a Samurai bowl and a BBQ bowl where they accidentally gave us the Eastern bowl and we took it home. So I got to taste three, yay! The main component of these bowls are a different veggie, tofu with nutritional yeast, and brown rice. Avocado is $1 extra and totally worth it. They are really liberal on sauce use so asking for light on sauce or sauce on side would be what I would do next time, but I’d definitely come here again. They are a sister restaurant with The Sweet Hereafter on Belmont which has a similar menu!

RECOMMEND- One of their bowls, they are large enough to split or take home for leftovers!

AND Cafe

BRUNCH: the most important meal of every Sunday. Everything here is vegan unless you add poached eggs or Tillamook cheddar cheese, and for $8 you can add your choice of bloody mary or mimosa and a tea or coffee as a combo. That saves you a couple dollars as their Marys are about $7.50 anyway, but the drinks were superb! Phil ordered the Feast Waffle with poached eggs and I had their field hash with biscuit and gravy. All food tasted phenomenal. The only downside is the somewhat small area, but we arrived on a Sunday at 1:30 and had no issues.

RECOMMEND – Everything was good but you have to at least try the biscuits and gravy.

El Nutri Taco

This place cracks me up because it’s literally a food truck in someone’s front yard…regardless don’t judge a book by its cover! Not a fully vegan cart, they cater to vegan/dairy free/vegetarian diets by providing plant based substitutes as well as bean/rice/veggie ingredients in their burritos. We split a grande burrito and the super burrito. The first one was awesome, the second one was “meh” to me…the hot sauce is great, next time I will have to try the raved about vegan nachos! They have another location on NE Alberta as well.

Laughing Planet

This place is a quick self service restaurant that has grown to a chain that now encompasses Eugene and Reno. It is extremely popular among locals who enjoy holistic eating and can satisfy any diet: Vegan? Paleo? Gluten Free? Don’t Care? You’ll love laughing planet. The food consists of salads, smoothies, quesadillas, bowls, and burritos. Like one of the burrito choices and want to make it into a bowl? No problem. Substitute tofu for beef? Easy peasy. They also have seasonal dishes that reflect fresh veggies/fruits in season. Everything here can be made vegan easily with tofu, tempeh or without and they do also provide a up-sell of vegan sour cream and cheese, although its a $2.50 additional charge.

RECOMMENDED- The seasonals are quite good with Calexico and Kalebasa being my favorite. My favorite vegan bowl regular menu is the Soylent Green with tempeh. For smoothies- Peanut butter and jelly.

Blossoming Lotus

I had high expectations coming here because of the awesome reviews- our personal consensus was that the price was a bit high for what the food was but the portion sizes were huge so we got to have leftovers the next day. The Mac and Cheese was tasteless and the cheeseburger was so/so. The Bi-bim-bap was definitely not traditional but it was tasty and the BBQ soy curls were amazing. There is an extensive raw menu for those raw vegans out there including “live nachos” and different tossed kale salads which looked cool, and also the breakfast menu looked phenomenal. We may be checking this place out again for breakfast!

Homegrown Smokehouse and Deli

When you see a restaurant name like this you may conjur up images of baby back ribs or sausages….but nope! This fully vegan restaurant has the best vegan BBQ/comfort food that I’ve ever had. I’m officially obsessed. And the prices? Mostly under $10 (what!?) I had the Macnocheeto burrito (I left out the tortilla since it was enough carby goodness for me) and Phil had the special which was a “pastrami” BBQ sandwich of the seitan variety. The menu was one of those that I had a very hard time choosing…everything looks good.

Devin’s Dive

This is an awesome food cart that specializes in vegan comfort food. Their menu is small which is normal for a food cart, but very savory comfort food. We ordered the vegan mac and cheese and the Buffalo with soy curls in a rice plate. The buffalo plate was definitely great comfort food and they make their own buffalo and ranch sauces (the ranch was spectacular! much more flavorful than varieties on the shelf) to end with a great product. The food cart pod where it is located has a beer garden and two other vegan carts as well.

Sushi Love

Sushi restaurants are certainly vegan friendly as it is, but if you’re tired of cucumber rolls and miso soup and want to support an amazing sushi chef definitely check this place out! We ordered the following rolls: Avalon California roll (which was jackfruit “crab”, avocado, and cucumber- great substitute for a spicy tuna roll), Mother of Dragons Roll (tofu, mushrooms, asparagus topped with avocado), and starry inari (fried tofu pouches with rice- great substitute for tempura).

RECOMMENDED– I am obsessed with the Avalon CA roll
